How Safe Are Your Passwords?

Passwords are our everything. It gives us access to our bank, our social media, and our Amazon purchases. There is probably not one day that goes by that we are not utilizing password-protected accounts. So let’s protect our online lives with safe password practices.

Do not use the same password for everything!

We know it is easier if all of your passwords are the same. But a hacker could use your password from your favorite department store to your personal email. Here are several password tips that you should be practicing:

  • Use a Password manager – such as Bit Warden or LastPass - You only need to remember one password since the rest will be auto generated.
  • Use 4 random words – if you use a randomizer, these 4 random words will be easier to remember than an auto-generated password.
  • Two-factor authentication - We highly recommended this for an additional level of security on your data.
  • Change your password at least every 90 days - We know it is a hassle to change, but this minor hassle could be the difference between getting breached or not.

And please, please, please DO NOT have a sticky note with your password under a mousepad for work computers. This is like your house key under the welcome mat. People know to look at this making it easy to get your information.

Instead of juggling 5 different usernames and passwords for your business, you may want to have Single Sign-On (SSO) protocols. This will allow you to be able to sign in to everything with one username and password. Let us know if you are interested by calling us at 614-548-1135 or email us at sales@centraltech.biz.
